In many parts of the world today there is a profitable market for products which lighten or whiten people’s skin.
Outline the reasons for using such products and discuss what effects they have in terms of health and society.In some country in the world, particularly places like Asia, the whitening skin products are incredibly popular and provide huge profits for the companies involved in their sale. This essay will discuss reasons why people using these products and the effects this has on people’s health and society.
The principal reason why people using whitening skin products is because the whiten skin are more desirable than black skin. In ancient times, those people of a high status was likely to stay indoors, while people of low status tended to work outdoors, usually farming. As a results, those rich people had much lighter skin, which means that the whiten skin is now associated with being higher class than dark one. Another reason, which is partly related to this, is the desire for “Western” look. These beliefs and images are also perpetuated in the media, with adverts showing people with white skin as more successful and attractive.
However, despite the fact that white skin can improve people’s self-esteem, these products can have negative effects. In terms of society, there are detrimental effects. Such behavior perpetuates the beliefs that white skin is better than dark, thus those with dark skin may experience discrimination. Regarding health, there are some reports that people are harming their skin permanently. For example, some contain steroids and toxins which can severely damage the skin and other parts of body.
In conclusion, the market of lighten products are more and more huge in Asian countries, these products bring the feeling desirable for the users. Besides that, there are a lot of negative effects in health and society.[3/18/2018, 10:45:53 AM] Cám ơn các bạn!
