Products to beautify people especially ones for lightening people’s skin earn a lot of profit. This essay will examine why it is becoming popular and consider some impacts that such products make to our health and society.
People use whitening products for various reasons. First and foremost, it is because of our people’s strong bias towards dark skinned ones who are not considered beautiful and high-ranked in society. This originates from the past history when people doing manual works were sunburnt and had dark skin because they were more exposed to the sun. Next, white skin makes people more confident in their appearance and they are more likely to achieve their goals thanks to their good looking and self-esteem. In addition, the youth especially teenagers try to copy their idols, usually the celebrities who mostly appears on the advertisements on cosmetics and whitening products.
Nevertheless, using such products can bring about some bad consequences to our health and place a burden on society. As we know that manufacturers use chemicals to produce these products and also apply some additives to preserve it from being spoiled during transport and storage. So the more we use them, the more possibility we have skin cancer or even kidney cancer. Upon we become sick, we become a burden for our families and societies. Besides, those products are very costly and some women cannot control their finance because of running after the beauty products. Our society as well as our nation cannot be wealthy if its cell – every citizen is not healthy and happy.
In conclusion, the above reasons drive people to increasingly use these whitening products that causes negative impacts on either users or societies.
