People in all modern societies use drugs, but today’s youth are experimenting with both legal and illegal drugs, and at an early age. Some sociologists claim that parents and other members of society often set a bad example.
Discuss the cause and effects of widespread drug abuse by young people. Make any recommendations you feel are necessary to help fight youth drug abuse.

Nowadays, youth drug abuse has increased at an alarming rate in modern societies which leads to an unhealthy lifestyle. According to some sociologists, parents and other members of society do not set good role model. There are a number of reasons behind this trend and several solutions should be proposed to solve this problem.

There are two primary reasons why adults set bad examples of using drugs for young folks. One reason is that teenagers may imitate their idol’s bad behaviors because most of the adolescents consider a public figure as an ideal person and want to be just like their idol. For instance, Michael Jackson was a drug addict. As a result, a huge number of fans had blind adoration and started to copy his unhealthy lifestyle. Another reason is that in the fast changing world, some parents less pay attention to their children due to the lack of time. Thus, without parent’s observation, teenagers would easily become friends with bad guys who lead them to unethical behaviors and social crime include abusing illegal drugs.

However, some simple measures should be implemented to deal with the root cause of youth’s drug use. Firstly, school should launch educational campaigns to increase children’s perception of drug consumption which could ruin their health and their future by copying idol’s bad behaviors. In addition, the parent should make efforts to take care and give the guidance for their children which could enable teenagers to avoid negative influence from their peers as well as fall in social evils.

In conclusion, the increasing problem of youth drug abuse can be tackled by effective measures in terms of launching campaigns at school and the guidance from parents.
