Question: Some people think young people should go to university to further their education while others think they should be encouraged to work as car mechanics or builders etc to serve society. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Answer: People have different views about whether should youngster go to higher education or start looking for a job after high school. I personally think that both of these paths have its own advantages and disadvantages, so the better argument would be it depends on the career they want to pursuit and their specific situation.
One of the benefits that universities offer is a deep theoretical knowledge relating to a specific field. And that kind of knowledge is absolutely crucial to some occupations like scientists, physicists, lawyers or doctors. As a matter of fact, for a person to be able to occupies as lawyer or doctor, a college degree is a minimum requirement. Therefore for people who want to pursuit those career, further education is not only a better choice, but also is essential.
With that being said, there are many situations where young people are better off without a college degree. Firstly, by not taking further education, they will be able to avoid college debt or at least not having to spend a tremendous amount of money and several years of their life. Especially when a college degree is not a guarantee anymore. The rate of unemployment for graduates has increased significantly in recent years. Secondly, there are many jobs that require more practical knowledge, which is not really something university can provide efficiently. For example, many students who have a “Master of Business Administration” couldn’t build a business that is as successful as people who don’t.
In conclusion, there are places for both further education and self-educated. The best thing young people can do is to find out what career they want to pursuit and from there, decide which one is the optimal path.
