The first and second bar charts illustrate the information on the average many years of schooling and the number of scientists and technicians per 1000 people in developing and industrial nations over the period of ten years. While, the final bar chart outlines the data on how much money spent on Research & Development during the same period.
Overall, between 1980 and 1990, while the levels of participation in education and science in industrialized countries were by far higher than that of in developed countries. Similarly, the money that developing nations spent on these fields was also much lower than that of industrialized counterparts.
In 1980, the governments in developing nations spent about 50 billion USD on Research and Development, whereas the figure for industrialized countries was 3 times higher, around 150 billion USD. In the same time, the number of scientists and technicians in the developing nations was 10 per 1000 people compared to above 40 per 1000 people in the industrialized nations.
Ten years later, the amount of money used in industrialized nations went up more than 2 times to about 350 billion USD; on the contrary, the figure for developing countries went down a half to approximately 25 billion USD. The number of scientists and technicians in both developing and industrialized nations rose significantly to above 40 billion and 65 billion USD respectively.
