The graph reflects the amount of goods freighted in UK by four modes of transport from 1974 to 2002.
In general, the figure of all transportation varied significantly and witnessed an upward trend at the end of the period. Goods were transported mainly by road and water. That value of road transportation experienced some fluctuation, one of which was the dramatic decrease in around 1996. Howerver, delivering good by road was still the most popular because of its easy access.
In contrast, the quantity of commodity freighted by water was not high in the beginning of the duration but in 1978, that number hiked considerably and remained stable from 1982. When the value of road transportation hit the peak in 1998, that of water shipment bottomed out.
It is clear from the graph that the moist substantial fluctuation was seen in the figure of rail delivery. That number embarked to plummet when water transportation was widely used in 1978 and appeared to slide back from 1994. Lastly, it was the value of ware delivered by pipeline that had no sign of falling. It follow a continued growth until 1994 and leveled out at about 20 milion tones.
