The money spend on space research has brought enormous benefit to mankind, but it could be more usefully applied. How far do you agree?
It is sometimes argued that whether the government should allocate money on space research as it can bring significant advantages to mankind or invest on more urgent projects such as education, economy and healthcare, etc. From my point of view, I believe that other crucial fields should be funded.
The first reason is that although space exploration could bring us a lot of benefit to the citizen, little of achievement have been made so far. Considerable success, for instance, landing on the Moon or finding about Mars could not merit the huge amount of money have been invested. On the other hand, many people have a lack of food, clean water and medications. In Africa, thousand of people have to face pain and death every day due to the Hepatitis C Virus. The cost of medication for this virus is very high so that some poor countries can not afford to cure it. I think that it is worthier for them to focus on helping our own planet than exploring the universe.
Secondly, government should prioritize to invest on more pressing problems and providing the basic needs for people in the Earth. People should be subsidized housing, food and medication to protect themselves from bacterias, viruses. Beside that, they also need stable job in order to construct their families. In the USA, for instance, more than thousand of people are homeless and unployment, whereas, million of dollars have been invested on space research rather than allocated for these peoples. Therefore, I think government should fund wisely because it will affect the lives of more than million of ordinary people. These problems such as global warming, population control, unemployment and healthcare should be solved before studying the space.
In conclusion, I concur that government should have the responsibility to address all their internal issues such as food, clean water, housing, employment and medication. They should use taxpayers for improving the quality of living of their inhabitants by providing better education so that they can find a decent job, instead of investing on costly space research.
