Mathematics and philosophy are so difficult subjects that many students think they should be made optional rather than compulsory. In my opinion, students ought to be forced to study these subjects but just in basic level and the higher ones can be the optional choice.
In the first place, schools need to make mathematics and philosophy obligatory because of their brainy benefits. Philosophy, in my opinion, is a subject about the fundamental of the existence and nature of reality and knowledge. It is searching for reasons for everything that provokes students to ask the questions “why” and find out the answers by themselves. This process will evaluate youngsters’ thinking skills. In addition, children are required to express ideas as well as explain their own answers and own logic, which can help students improve presentation skills and debating skills. Besides philosophy, mathematics is a worth practicing subject if children want to enhance their logic and creation because a great number of math exercises have more than one solution. A student learning math is required to work out as many solutions as possible and write down the solution logically and understandably as well. Moreover, practicing math regularly is also a good way to have the brain doing exercise.
Philosophy and mathematics do not teach youngster what to think but teach them how to think. Therefore, when the student pass the basic level where they know the way to think and solve a problems, they can take use of the thinking skills they learn in every aspect in life and even in their majority. Then they could choose to continue studying these subject or not. Math and philosophy have never been easy to reach the advanced level. Only when a person is fond of a area could him/her be major in that subject. Thus, students who are keen on mathematics can take preference for math over other subjects and so on.
To sum up, philosophy and mathematics are needed for the mental development, school should make these ones mandatory for students in low or medium level then let them choose to study what they like.————————-
